CAN you write a limerick based on Berwickshire names and places?

If so you can win a prize which will be awarded at the Mission Crew Concert on Friday, February 26, in Eyemouth Parish Church.

The Mission Crew variety concert will be offering a rich mix of music, song, sketches, stories and comedy.

As w
ell as the fun and competition, 'Radio Hiemoothe' will be launched and a stovie supper will be served.

Tickets costing £6 will be available from The Royal Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen, Harbour Road, Eyemouth, telephone (01890) 751313.

A limerick is an amusing nonsense poem of five lines with special rules for the metre and rhyme.

The first, second and fifth lines rhyme with each other, while the third and fourth lines rhyme with each other using a different rhyme.

Entries must have a local reference and should be sent to Ian Waddell, Briarbank, Eyemouth, TD14 5BZ or emailed to ianwaddell@hotmail.co.uk by Monday, February 22.

Remember to include your name and contact details. If you are under 14 please also include your date of birth and a parent's signature.

Here's an example to get you get you going:
There was a young girl from Gunsgreen
Who often had the same dream.
She was usually afloat
On a big fishing boat –
She grew up to be crowned Herring Queen!
The competition will be judged by the members of the Mission Crew and the five best limericks will be read out during the concert.
