A COUPLE of rather nasty murders are planned for Duns later this month when Agatha Christie comes to town, courtesy of the Duns Players drama group.

The Players will stage 'Murder at the Vicarage', Christie's first whodunit to feature Miss Marple, at the Volunteer Hall, Duns on June 18, 19 and 20.

The play is set in 1949 in an English country vicarage during a hot summer of simmering passion
s.

Villagers bicker about the garden fete, the church funds and Colonel Protheroe's wayward daughter.

But tensions reach breaking point when the universally detested colonel is discovered shot dead at the vicar's desk. Everyone has a motive for killing him, but just who is the murderer?

The play, adapted for the stage by Moie Charles and Barbara Toy, is vintage Christie, with a shrewd eye for detail, witty repartee and a genius for surprise.

One revelation is Miss Marple herself, who debuts as a very different character to the sharp, but sweet, old lady we've become accustomed to.
The Duns Players production is directed by Adam Brown, with Euan McIver making a welcome return to the Berwickshire stage.

Interval refreshments will be very kindly provided by the ladies of the Berwickshire Federation of SWRIs.

Tickets for 'Murder at the Vicarage' are available from Nairns Newsagents, Duns. Price £6 (£5 concessions).
