TRANSPORT Scotland is investing £800,000 in a summer programme to resurface 12km of trunk road carriageways throughout the south-east of Scotland.
And that will mean delays for motorists driving through Berwickshire.
The new Gripfibre surface will improve skid resistance and road safety across 14 sites on the A1, A702, A7 and A68.
Work has now started on the A1 from Grantshouse to Blackbu
rn and is due to last until tomorrow, Friday, July 10.
This will be followed by three days of work from Greenwood to Renton (from tomorrow) and three days at Burnmouth from Wednesday, July 15.
The programme of improvements, which will finish at Hundalee (A68) at the end of August, follows the successful resurfacing programme carried out on the A7, A1 and A68 last summer.
Andy Thompson, senior planned maintenance manager at BEAR Scotland, Transport Scotland's operating company in the south-east, said: "These works are part of our ongoing commitment to ensure the road network continues to operate safely. The works are dependant on the weather but we estimate work at each location will take between two and five days, although one further site is programmed to take nine days.
"Once the Gripfibre has settled for a few days, our subcontractor will then return to the site to lay the road markings and studs."
The nature of the works means delays are expected. Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org.
The works will be carried out by Ringway on behalf of BEAR Scotland. They have been planned in consultation with the local authorities and police.
