FOLLOWING the decision of the High Court in Edinburgh to dismiss the Scottish Countryside Alliance's (SCA) appeal against the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act, the SCA has decided not to take their appeal against the Act forward to the Privy Council.
This decision was agreed after lengthy consultation with the Scottish hunting community, SCA members and supporters and in recognition of the fact that hunts in Scotland are continuing to operate within the bounds of the law.
 Allan Murray, directo
r of the Campaign for Hunting and Equestrian Sports said: "Scottish hunts are operating successfully within the new law and it is quite clear that there is growing support for hunting in Scotland. Whilst we are disappointed that our appeal was not upheld, hunting has now been given a clear operational direction with the fox control protocol having been fully accepted.
"The SCA campaigns for country sports, and hunting is at the heart of our work. We continue to work within the Scottish hunting community to ensure that hunting remains an important economic, environmental and social part of our rural way of life. We support the rural communities who ensure that hunting in Scotland continues, and we encourage the public to learn more about this important aspect of Scottish culture and the contribution it makes to our countryside.
"We will provide opportunities wherever we can for everyone to meet huntsmen, visit hunt kennels and see the foxhounds. The link between hunting and equestrian sports has been clearly demonstrated by the success of the GB team coming home with gold, silver and bronze medals. So, we will continue to promote equestrian sports and encourage young people to join the hunting community and in these ways we hope to promote the long-term success and sustainability of hunting in Scotland.
"Following the decision of the High Court in Edinburgh to dismiss the SCA's appeal against the Protection of Wild Mammals (Scotland) Act, we have decided not to take our appeal against the Act forward to the Privy Council. This decision was agreed after lengthy consultation with the Scottish hunting community, our members and supporters and in recognition of the fact that hunts in Scotland are continuing to operate within the bounds of the law."
