A COLDSTREAM woman got behind the till for the last time last week as she left a job she'd been in for 40 years.
Anne Cockburn, had been a permanent fixture at Carmichael's since the 1960s but she served her last customer and bid a fond farewell to her duties on Friday.
Anne followed in the tradition of other relatives by working in the shop and said it will be weird to not have to go into work anymore.
"Carmichaels was like the family business for us and at one time myself, my husband, two daughters and aunty were working there. It's all I've ever really known so not working there anymore will definitely take some getting used to."
Anne has covered all manner of duties during her 40 years at the shop, doing everything from working behind the till, manning the deli, stocking the shelves and balancing the books and current owner Judith Cowie said she will definitely be a big miss.
"I've worked alongside Anne for 20 years now and it's been a pleasure," Judith said.
"She gets on well with everyone and everyone knows both her and her family. She's been here for such a long time and I'm sure people are going to miss her."
Anne herself admitted that it's going to be the people she served and worked with that she'll miss the most.
"Being at Carmichael's for such a long time I've met lots of interesting people, and I couldn't name just one as my favourite customer- there's been so many. I've made lots of friends and and I'm really going to miss working with all the staff too.
"Now i'm going to have to get used to a different routine although I'm not one for really sitting around and doing nothing. My husband has a taxi business and I think I'll probably help with that."
