THE weather might have been dull but the mood was anything but as the people of Greenlaw gathered for its annual Festival at the weekend.
Although the heavens never completely opened, the sun didn't really get out either, although residents certainly did and a large audience took their seats for Greenlaw's Got Talent.
The final of Britain's Got Talent only had 10 finalists but some 15 acts took to the stage in Greenlaw on Friday. And they were judged by Greenlaw's very own Simon Cowpat (Johnny Atkins) and Amanda Hold-em-up (Libby Atkins-Patterson).
Daniel Drewary kicked off with a perfect rendition of 'Tie Me Kangaroo Down Sport', followed by the St Trinians (Katie Watson, Kirsty Bell, Sarah Allen). Rachel Denholm then sang 'Gotta Go My Own Way' from High School Musical 2 before Rikki Johnson impressed everyone with his Karate skills.
Emily Drewary followed with a superb rendition of 'Mamma Mia' before everyone rocked out to Andrew Wyatt with his electric guitar and Ailsa Chalmers who sang 'The Climb'.
Other highlights included Holly Wyatt singing 'Love Story', Oscar Kinross and Rory Henderson who flabbergasted the audience with their magic skills and Kate Douglas and Emma Hay who rounded off the evening with an amazing rendition of 'Put Your Records On'.
All in all it was a perfect opening to the 2009 Greenlaw Festival and Simon and Amanda eventually gave the top prizes to Andrew Wyatt and Ailsa Chalmers.
To keep the adults happy there was a local knowledge quiz. There were nearly 100 questions and the team who came out on top were The Outsiders with a score of 77½. They were presented with a bottle of fine wine for their efforts.
Saturday saw the crowning of 2009 Maid, Beth Campbell-Whitton who looked stunning in her cream dress with consort Claudio Delgado all scrubbed up in his kilt. Beth had three first ladies- Hannah Hay, Chantelle Jackson and Kirsty Canning, who all looked amazing in red, followed by the ushers and attendants who were chosen from Greenlaw Primary.
Beth was crowned by last year's Maid, Rebecca Watson.
It was the job of Dr Ian Maitland Hume to officially open the Festival and everyone was treated to an enjoyable afternoon on the green. The rain stayed away and there was a variety of music and entertainment to occupy everyone before the big 60s dance in the evening with live music from Scott Taylor.
The children's 60s themed fancy dress competition was won by Justin Murray and Kirsty Bell and Marion Smith won herself £10 for having the lucky programme.
Sunday started off with a very special Festival Service in the Kirk and this was followed by a day of sport and fun in Happers Park. There was a football tournament- the Festival Fun Fives- which was great fun to watch. The final was contested by Strongbow and Beat The Baw Rags, which ended in a draw after full time. Beat The Baw Rags eventually took victory after a gripping penalty shoot out.
