LAST Friday pupils and staff at Eyemouth Primary School went eco mad for their second annual eco action day.
All pupils were asked to wear something green to school that day and bring a donation. This raised roughly £140 which will be used to improve school grounds. A special mention to Katie Dyson who really made a massive effort with a fabulous recycling themed costume.
The theme for the day was 'cycles'. Maggie, Dominic and Fiona from the Scottish Borders Council Recycling Team visited most classes and everyone had fun learning more about recycling through games, activities and exciting new technology.
Primary sevens and ones worked together to design 'rubbish mascots' which will be put up around the school reminding everyone where they should put their litter.
Primary two and seven also worked with community arts group Think Make Grow to make colourful murals for the playground on mini-beast life cycles and the water cycle.
Two classes worked with Diane Bennet from Borders Forest Trust to make bird boxes for school grounds while primary five did a fun litter pick and cleaned up the playing fields behind the school. They were amazed at how much rubbish was found and that a lot of it could be recycled.
The school's oldest pupils got the chance to learn some mountain biking skills from outdoor education teacher, John Hall. We hope they will all get on their bikes from now on!
Nursery pupils worked on the life cycle of butterflies and planted lots of plants which butterflies love in their own garden.
Eyemouth Primary is working hard to complete the last few steps needed to achieve their 'Green Flag', the top award in the eco schools programme. The eco committee is hoping to "go for green" before Christmas.
