NHS BORDERS has announced that its chief executive, John Glennie, is to retire from the post he has held since 2003, in September.
John Glennie said: "I have decided to retire in September after spending the last 43 years in the NHS. It has been a great privilege and pleasure to have been chief executive of NHS Borders and to work with so many talented and dedicated colleagues.
NHS Borders is in good health, delivering excellent care and ready to meet the challenges that lie ahead".
Mary Wilson, chair of NHS Borders said: "I would like to thank John for his commitment and leadership. John has been an exceptional chief executive.
"He has delivered substantial improvements in our health services locally and nationally and worked determinedly to ensure the people of the Borders have access to high quality, local health care. On a personal note, I would like to thank John for the support that he has given me as chair of NHS Borders".
