A PAXTON cat is within a whisker of becoming the Leona Lewis of the feline world after entering a nationwide competition.
You've all heard of X Factor but how about 'Felix Factor'- a chance for cats all over the United Kingdom to strike a purrfect pose and impress a judging panel ready to mark their kitty credentials.
Sue Scott decided to enter her cat Jess after her neighbour told her about the competition to find a cat as entertaining and loveable as the famous Felix- a star of TV ads for decades now.
Sue has had Jess for just over a year and definitely thinks she's a real star.
"I didn't know anything about the competition," said Sue.
"It wasn't until my neighbour suggested that I enter Jess that I found out more about it. I had to say why I thought Jess was like Felix and then submit a picture. I decided to enter a picture of Jess and my other cat Monty as they get on so well together."
Three year old Monty is no stranger to competitions either, Sue entered him for BARK's calendar competition and he ended up being Mr December.
Both cats love being in the limelight, and Jess particularly likes her fair share of attention.
"She does all sorts of tricks and her favourite is ambushing you," said Sue.
" Whether she jumps out from behind a chair or a hedge - she loves surprising you. She's a real livewire and very mischevious."
"Monty is a bit older than her and he doesn't get much rest. Jess is like the Queen of Ambush and he is her adversory. She really tires him out as well as me - they're a right pair!"
Although Sue thought that Jess fitted the competition brief perfectly she didn't expect to hear back from the organisers to say that Jess's picture would first be going onto the Felix Factor gallery and then make it onto the first shortlist.
"I never expected to hear back from anyone, I entered Jess for a bit of fun. When the organisers got in touch I was really surprised - the judges obviously saw how entertaining she can be!"
And it's not just Sue who Jess likes to entertain, she has also made friends with Sue's neighbours and their pets and they have grown fond of her too.
"They're aren't many other cats around here for Jess to play with other than Monty but she does get on well with one of my neighbour's dogs.
"She also regularly sits on one of my neighbour's window sill until she lets her in. And another one of my friends does a lot of gardening so she likes going over there too.
"She's great fun when you're in the garden as she likes to poke her nose through bushes to distract you."
The prize for the winning owner is a holiday and a camcorder and the champion cat will have their tastebuds satisfied with a year's supply of catfood.
The winner is announced on May 12 so Sue and Jess will be keeping their fingers and claws crossed that the result goes their way.
