LAST week Greenlaw's links with Poland were renewed and strengthened when The Polish National Junior Eventing Team stayed in the village while competing at The FEI Junior European Trials, held this year at Thirlestane Castle.
The team made a promising start but after a refusal and a fall on the second day they slipped down the ranking to finish 12th out a field of 17. Although wet and tired by the end of the competition the team said that they enjoyed their visit and the friendly atmosphere at Thirlestane.
This was probably the largest Polish group to stay in the village since the Second World War, when units of the 1st Armoured Division under General Maczek were billeted in the Town Hall.
The eventing team were interested in the exciting plans for the restoration of the Town Hall and also to see where their countrymen stayed over 60 years ago.
Coach Marcin Konarsk said " It seems right that after serving our counties so well it will now be restored.
