LOCAL MP Michael Moore and Scottish Borders Council leader David Parker both have reason to be grateful to the special care baby unit and Borders General Hospital and after wallking the 68 mile Borders Abbey Way they were able to hand over a cheque for £11,750 to the unit last week.
Last year local MP Michael Moore and his wife Alison had their first baby Ella, who was born prematurely and cared for in the special care baby unit, and similarly David and Ruth's son Angus was also cared for in the same unit when he arrived early.
As a thank you to the staff who cared for their children Michael and David agreed to complete the sponsored walk last year, and they were joined by people from the special care baby unit and other supporters en route.
Their aim was to raise £3,000 to enable the unit to buy two new specialised cots to improve the care which the unit is able to provide to premature babies and their families.
But thanks to the amazing generosity of people in the Borders and elsewhere they raised substantially more than they expected and the unit is now able to buy a great deal more equipment.
