POLICE are appealing to B&B owners in the Berwick and Berwickshire area for information following a report of a rape.

A 24 year-old woman, of no fixed address, was walking in an industrial estate in Cramlington, Northumberland, between 6.30pm and 7pm on Monday, March 1, when she was approached by a man who knew her, who was driving a small white van, possibly a Ci
troen Berlingo. They then drove north towards the Scottish border.

The pair stopped at a bed and breakfast, where they stayed overnight between Monday, March 1 and Tuesday, March 2.

The woman has since alleged that she was raped by the man at the bed and breakfast, the location of which has not yet been established.
Detective Inspector Tim Miley, of Northumbria Police's rape investigation team said: "The bed and breakfast where they stopped at was possibly in the Berwick, Alnwick, or Alnmouth area, or it may have been north of the border. I would appeal to the owners of a B&B who might recognise these people to contact police as they may have information which could help our investigation."

The man is described as in his late 20s, with distinctive ginger hair, tattoos on his fingers, and spoke with a strong Irish accent.
Anyone with any information is asked to contact 03456 043043 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
