A LOCAL swimmer has swapped the saltire for the stars and stripes after accepting a sports scholarship to study in the United States.

Former Eyemouth High School pupil Kevin Dickson, 17, from Coldingham began his swimming career at Eyemouth Swimming pool before moving to train at Duns ASC during his time at high school.

He has a number of successes to date including competing at District, Scottish and National levels over the past few years.

He also represented Eyemouth High School at W.I.S.E- the national school championships in 2006 and swam at the UK Games in 2008. He now has his sights set on success in America and continuing his training at University level.

"Kevin is a very dedicated, young swimmer who deserve to conquer the American swimming league as he has worked so hard to get there," Teagan Blaikie, one of Kevin's former classmates, commented as she reflected on his successes.

Kevin is now a student at Pace University in New York. As well as swimming and competing for the university swim team, he is studying for a business management degree.

Everyone in Eyemouth and the surrounding area are very proud of Kevin and wish him all the best in his up coming endeavours.
