FRIDAY evening saw the semis and final of the Harry Hogg knockout which started way back in mid November with a single preliminary game.
On to December 6 for the second round for two full sessions, then the quarter finals on January 6 leading up to the semis in which Coldstream beat Earlston and Ayton Castle beat Glendale.
A very hard fought final went to the last stone, and an un
usual and unfortunate infringement gave the game to Coldstream. The event was most generously sponsored by Border Chainsaw and Lawnmower Services, for which all are truly thankful.
A touch of the Yester Yips in the most recent Border League round saw Glendale clear at the top of section two, going 6-2 up agin the Jesters, while St Boswells defeated Swinton 8-2. In section one Greenlaw sit fairly safe at the top with a 10-5 win over Selkirk, and no more games to play.
Duns could pose a threat, following a win over Jedburgh at 11-5, with a game or two in hand, and the rhymers are a possibility dependent on shots up; Coldstream are in with a distant shout as well but they will need a truckload of shots in their coming games.
The forthcoming Page play offs on March 16 will bring section leaders and runners up into full contention and should make for some interesting times ahead.
The Auld Yins' league is nearing its end with Jim Clark heading the table following a 7-5 win over Stuart Shaw, but David Oliphant poses a threat with a chance of going ahead on shots up into the final stages.
