WITH a combination of almost continental summer weather and a very sporting atmosphere it was little wonder that course records and personal bests were set at Auchencrow Thistle's 10 mile TT championship, which was won by Neil Milton.

However, it was at the other end of the field that Karen Haldane took a massive two minutes off her time in only her second attempt at that distance to record a pb, a success that was also achieved by Jane Holmes, Greig Baird and Duncan Martin. Ti
mes were N Milton 23.18, T Caine 25.57, D Martin 27.59, G Baird 28.08, J Holmes 29.37 and K Haldane 31.52.
Making a comeback after injury, former member Aidan McIlroy was given a private time trial by timekeepers Ian Black and John Nisbet in which he set a new course record of 22.31 in his first serious cycle of the season. With no after-effects it looks like Aidan's career is once more back on track.
Tim Caine was the club's only competitor in the Lothian Flyer APR, organised by the Peebles CC in the picturesque Stobo area of Peebleshire. Still finding his feet in the road-racing discipline, Tim finished well placed in the second group of riders.
Neil Milton achieved his season's target of completing a 400km audax when he rode Gala CC's event on Saturday. With the route taking in the former counties of Selkirk, Roxburgh, Northumberland, Cumberland and Dumfries there was very obviously very little flat terrain involved, with the long haul from Moffat to St Mary's Loch coming near the end of the ride. Neil completed the full 406kms in a total time of 18hrs 38 mins, with a riding time of about 15hrs.
