IN section one of the Border Curling League, Border Wheelchair made Greenlaw work hard for their 7-3 win which has them at the top of the section undefeated.
Earlston posted their first win of the season going 7-4 up agin Kelso. In what has often been seen as a needle game in the past, Yester went down 9-3 versus Ayton Castle and following their abysmal effort against Yester, Foulden regained some compo
sure with 11-4 against Teviotdale.
The opening round of the Laidlaw Cup competition began with a preliminary round between Duns and Coldstream, the latter club going through to then defeat Greenlaw in a game of two halves; the second half seeing a solid comeback by Greenlaw but not enough to win.
Earlston and Lammermuir served up a comedy of errors in a nip and tuck game with a tragic element put in by Lammermuir's skip to the benefit of the rhymers who will now face Coldstream in the semi final.
Chirnside turned on the power against Foulden going 13-6 up, which will bring them against Ayton castle, who had a disastrous start against Swinton. Ayton eventually took the game on an extra end.
The semi-finals will take place on Wednesday, November 4 at 2.30pm and the final will be at 2.30pm on Friday, November 6.
Meanwhile, the Melrose Kettle has taken place with a selection of close games starting with St Boswells 8-7 against Teviotdale; the Saints then marched on to 9-6 over Roxburghe to meet Kelso in the final, Kelso having managed to contain Selkirk at 8-6. A very tough final went to St Boswells 7-6. Sadly, Jedburgh were unable to come up with rinks to join in the series, but perhaps they will come good for the Dun Trophy running from November 25-27.
The Border Curling Development Group are having a get together on Wednesday, November 18 from 10am til 2pm with a film unit on hand to aid the group's efforts for the Peoples Millions entry. The two minute feature will be shown on November 24 pm on local TV. All are welcome on November 18 to take part in the show .
