BERWICK manager Jimmy Crease warned that 'heads might roll'' after Saturday's dismal home defeat at the hands of Forfar.
Picking his words carefully he said: "This was a big game for us, It was one we knew we had to win, but we just didn't come up to scratch.
"In fact, it was the worst display I have seen from a Berwick side since I took over as manager.
"So far I
have given the players all the credit for what they have achieved, but what I saw today was just unacceptable. They showed no fight and now heads might roll."
Crease added: "Our title hopes have now gone with that result, and any more performances like that and our play-off hopes will go as well.
"So with that in mind I will do whatever it takes to get us back on track.
"If I have to go out and bring in three or four new players this week and change the whole dynamics of the team, then that is what I will do."
Crease said Forfar thoroughly deserved their victory and had the final scoreline been five or six it would not have been an injustice.
"At half-time when we went in 1-0 down I thought we were still in the game. For 15 minutes we talked about the importance of defending well and getting off to a good start in the second half, but just two minutes after half-time we conceded a second goal and really, after that, it was game over.
"The sending off didn't help, but by then we were 4-0 down and there was no way back.
"As it was I thought it was never a sending off. I'm not condoning what Currie did, but just a few minutes earlier there had been a similar tackle on Paul himself and that went unpunished by the referee.
"It was a huge disappointment because we just couldn't defend," he said, "and by that I don't just mean the back four, other players just didn't get back to help out.
"Our defending has been a worry for me for several weeks now - even when we won 5-1 at Elgin a few weeks ago there were questions asked of us at the back, and that's something we will have to address.
"For weeks I have had players knocking on my door asking for a chance to play and get in the team, but when they are handed an opportunity they turn in performances like that."
This weekend Rangers face Annan at Shielfield. Paul Currie, after his sending off on Saturday, will miss the game, and there also has to be a doubt over goalkeeper Mark Peat, who struggled through last weekend's fixture, but Crease said he is hopeful that Alan Brazil, who has been out with a leg injury since before Christmas, might make an appearance on the bench.
"We don't want to rush Alan back too quickly," he said, "but he's back in training and could feature amongst the substitutes."
