After visiting the street boys' orphanage in Peru last June, 18-year-old Amy Clement came back to Berwickshire determined to do something to help.

She decided to tackle the gruelling Edinburgh marathon to raise money, a pretty daunting task given she hadn't done much running before, and enlisted mum Heather Dalgleish to keep her company.

"The marathon itself was very tough, it was so hot and we had trained mostly in the cold weather," Heather said.

"Amy managed better than me but I guess that has a lot to do with age!"

In total the duo raised an impressive £1,250 for the Vine Trust, an international interdenominational charity with particular concern for vulnerable children.

"Amy and I would like to thank everyone who sponsored us," Heather added. "That money will do so much for the street boys.

"We never thought that we would make so much money so it made all the pain worth it."
