BERWICK continue to build for the forthcoming season with the announcement this week that Chris McMenamin has joined Rangers on a full contract.
McMenamin, who is 20, played on loan from Airdrie last season, but he was released by the New Broomhill club at the end of the campaign.
Berwick manager Jimmy Crease says he is delighted McMenamin has decided to make the switch to Shielfield as he
is a player with a lot of potential.
"Chris was the 'Young Player of the Month' for the whole of Scotland last December," said Crease. "He scored some vital goals for us during that period and then became a near regular in the side. I was always keen that he should stay with us, but when he was released by Airdrie we wasted no time in agreeing a deal to bring him to Shielfield on a permanent basis.
The midfielder now joins full back Elliot Smith, and two other midfielders, Stevie Notman and Paul Currie, who have all signed for the club in recent weeks.
They now team up with Stuart Callaghan, Ian Little, David Greenhill, Peter McMahon, Robbie Horn and Jamie Ewart, who are all returning from last season.
Two others, full-back Graham Guy and front man Steven Hampshire, are understood to have been offered new deals, but have yet to accept them and put pen to paper.
Berwick have been training for the past fortnight and are curently building up to their programme of pre-season friendlies against a Hibernian XI, Stenhousemuir and Blyth Spartans.
Several players have been invited along to training with a view to seeing how they shape up, but Crease says his priority now is to sign two goalkeepers and two strikers.
"We seem to have cover in most other positions at the moment," said Crease, "but we need a couple of strikers and goalkeepers to supplement our squad."
* BERWICK Rangers have been forced to change their kit supplier.
A statement on the club's official website (berwickrangers.net) last week stated:
"Due to unforeseen circumstances the relationship with Diadora, as previously advertised, has encountered problems and both the club and Diadora believe that it would be beneficial to cut any ties before the new season commences.
"We're delighted to announce that we have appointed Danish sports brand Hummel as the club's new official kit supplier for the next two years, commencing season 2009/2010, and they will be supplying strips to the designs voted for by fans earlier this year, with delivery expected early in July.
"Kit supplier representative David McBain said "We are delighted to be involved with BRFC and look forward to forging a close working relationship over the next couple of years and would like to offer Jimmy, and the rest of the players, good luck for the forthcoming season."
Berwick director Callum Porteous said: "Diadora felt that they weren't able to fulfil our requirements and we're delighted that we were able to source a quality replacement in Hummel this late in the day. We're looking forward to launching the new kit before the competitive fixtures get under way."
