WESTRUTHER'S Callum Airlie is celebrating this week after having rocketed his way to championship victory over the weekend sailing in his single-handed Optimist dinghy at the RYAS Scottish Home Country Championship held in Largs.

Posting bullets in all three of his races, 14-year-old Callum beat some of Scotland's best young sailors at the event blowing them right out of the water with his perfect score to scoop victory and the coveted title Optimist RYAS Volvo Home Country Champion 2009.

The RYA Volvo Zone and Home Country Championships traditionally mark the end of the Junior racing season and the start of a hard winter's training. They are a key event for any young sailor wishing to be selected for the RYA Zone and Home Country squads, which are the first step on the pathway to Olympic Classes sailing.
