BERWICK manager Jimmy Crease has revealed how he almost left two-goal hero Steven Radzynski out of Saturday's starting line-up at Elgin.
"Steven had been told he needs to do better," said Crease. "As a player of 25 he has come late into the professional game and so he has picked up some bad habits.

"I was undecided as to whether he should play or not at Elgin, because Damon Gray wa
s available and I could have used him instead.

"I didn't decide on my starting line-up until Saturday afternoon, and to be honest, it was only after I had consulted my coaches Ian Little and Robbie Horn that Steven got the nod.

"As it was he played well, he got off the mark with two goals and now it will be very difficult to leave him out of the side against Montrose this weekend."

Of Saturday's opponents Crease said: "I think Montrose are not as bad as their league position suggests. They only lost 1-0 to East Stirling at the weekend so that shows they will be no push-overs.

"They haven't won a game yet and I'm sure that's something which will be at the back of our players' minds when they go out onto the pitch because they won't want to be the first team to lose to them."

Radzynski's new-found form means Berwick may now change their mind about bringing in a new striker during the January transfer window.

"We had been looking to bring a new striker in," admitted Crease, "but the deal fell through. Now, after Radzynski scored twice on Saturday we have to ask ourselves 'do we really need to bring someone else in?'"

Saturday's win lifted Berwick to within two points of the leaders and that fact alone meant Crease was not giving up on the title just yet.

"It's very close at the top and we still have a chance," he said. "A top four finish will be nice, but as long as we have a chance of the championship we have to believe we can do it."

Rangers are still awaiting confirmation of new dates for their re-arranged fixtures, but Crease said he was hopeful the match at Annan would go ahead on February 9 or 10. Dates for the other games against Livingston, Stranraer and Forfar have yet to be finalised.
